Eight Steps toward Fire Resiliency

I support common sense solutions

  1. Complete an Evacuation Plan by March 31, 2023.   Implement an Evacuation Program by June 30, 2023.

  2. Acknowledge the Moritz Map as the best available fire hazard assessment of Portola Valley that we have at this time.

  3.  Correct the draft Safety and Housing Elements so our policies are based on our best data - the Moritz Map- as they have since 2010.

  4. Designate by ordinance Moritz's Highest Hazard areas as Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zones (VHFHSZs) as Woodside did with WFPD recommendations 14 years ago.

  5. Adopt Cal Fire's Minimum Fire Safe Development Regulations for new construction within all VHFHSZs/Highest Hazard areas defined by Moritz.

  6. Update the General Plan and the VHFHSZs when better assessments become available.

  7. After fulsome discussion and review of pertinent information, consider adopting Cal Fire's Minimum Fire Safe Development Regulations for new construction throughout Town, irrespective of hazard classification.

  8. Review Portola Valley's recent implementations of of State Housing mandates for consistency with Cal Fire regulations, best fire practices, and our existing fire safety policies as defined in the Safety Element.
